Based on the feedback of our researchers, Alfaisal IRB discussed and approved during its meeting that was held on April 17, 2019, the idea of creating an IRB sub-committee that reviews animal-related research proposals. The main aim is to ensure compliance with the NCBE animal care and use guidelines. Subsequently, the creation of the animal sub-committee was also approved by Alfaisal University President on May 29, 2019.
Role and Function
The animal research sub-committee, a part of the local IRB committee, is composed of two faculty who are experts in conducting animal-related research projects. The IRB Chairman chairs this subcommittee. All policies and regulations of NCBE that are applied to the IRB shall apply to this sub-committee too. All animal-related research proposals will be forwarded to this sub-committee first. The sub-committee will review and submit a set of recommendations to be discussed during the next board meeting.
